Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice flour - 200 grams
  • Water - 150 milliliters
  • Ground pork - 100 grams
  • Mushrooms (dried, rehydrated and diced) - 30 grams
  • Green onions (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Banana leaves (for wrapping) - 2 pieces

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour and water to form a smooth dough.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the ground pork, diced mushrooms, green onions, fish sauce, sugar, black pepper, sesame oil, and salt until well combined.
  3. Cut banana leaves into squares (about 15cm x 15cm) and lightly steam them to make them pliable.
  4. Take a small piece of dough and flatten it in your palm to create a disc shape.
  5. Place a spoonful of the pork filling in the center of the disc, then fold the dough over to encase the filling, and shape it into a ball.
  6. Wrap the ball in the banana leaf, folding the edges to secure it, then repeat for the remaining dough and filling.
  7. Place the wrapped bánh in a steamer and steam for about 20-25 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Remove from the steamer and let cool slightly before serving.
