Ingredients

  • Glutinous black rice - 100g
  • Coconut milk - 100ml
  • Water - 300ml
  • Sugar - 30g
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tbsp (optional)
  • Banana leaves or parchment paper - for wrapping

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous black rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and steam it in a steamer lined with banana leaves or parchment paper for about 30 minutes, until tender.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat gently while stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a mixing bowl and pour half of the coconut milk mixture over the rice. Mix well to combine.
  5. Spoon the rice mixture into small bowls or molds, pressing down to pack it tightly. Let it cool for 10 minutes.
  6. Serve the rice desserts drizzled with the remaining coconut milk mixture and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
