Ingredients
- Beef sirloin - 300 grams
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Shallots - 2, minced
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
- Shrimp paste (Mắm Tôm) - 2 tablespoons
- Lime - 1, cut into wedges
- Fresh herbs (cilantro, mint, or basil) - handful
Steps
- Cut the beef sirloin into thin slices, about 1/2 cm thick.
- In a bowl, combine minced garlic, minced shallots, soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar, black pepper, lemon juice, and vegetable oil to create a marinade.
- Add the sliced beef to the marinade and mix well. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- While the beef is marinating, prepare the dipping sauce by mixing the shrimp paste with a bit of warm water to thin it out (about 1-2 tablespoons of water). Adjust to taste.
- Preheat the grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Once the grill is hot, add the marinated beef slices in a single layer. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side until cooked to your desired doneness.
- Remove the beef from the grill and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
- Serve the grilled beef with the shrimp paste sauce, lime wedges, and a handful of fresh herbs on the side.
