Ingredients
- Beef sirloin - 300 grams
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Mắm ruốc (fermented shrimp paste) - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Shallots - 2, finely chopped
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Coconut sugar - 1 teaspoon (optional, for a touch of sweetness)
- Lime juice - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh mint leaves - 10 grams, chopped
- Lettuce leaves - 4 large leaves (for serving)
- Cucumber - 1 small, sliced (for serving)
- Chili pepper - 1, sliced (for serving)
Steps
- Slice the beef sirloin into thin strips, about 1 cm wide.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the fish sauce, mắm ruốc, minced garlic, chopped shallots, black pepper, and coconut sugar (if using). Mix well to form a marinade.
- Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Cover and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated beef onto skewers (if using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning).
- Grill the beef skewers for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.
- While the beef is grilling, prepare the dipping sauce by mixing lime juice, chopped mint leaves, and additional fish sauce to taste.
- Serve the grilled beef with lettuce leaves, cucumber slices, and sliced chili pepper, along with the dipping sauce on the side.
