- Wild betel leaves (lá lốt) - 10 leaves
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Shallot - 1 small, finely chopped
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Coconut aminos - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Red chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon (for grilling)
- Lettuce leaves - 4 leaves (for serving)
- Fresh herbs (mint, cilantro) - 1/2 cup mixed (for serving)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, chopped shallot, fish sauce, coconut aminos, black pepper, and red chili flakes (if using). Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Take a wild betel leaf and place about 1 tablespoon of the beef mixture in the center. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll it up tightly. Repeat with the remaining leaves and beef mixture.
- Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat and brush with olive oil. Place the wrapped beef rolls seam-side down on the grill.
- Grill the rolls for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the beef is cooked through and the leaves are slightly charred.
- Remove from the grill and let them rest for a couple of minutes before serving.
- Serve the grilled Bò Nướng Lá Lốt wrapped in lettuce leaves and garnished with fresh herbs.
