Ingredients

  • Beef chuck - 400 grams, cut into cubes
  • Beef broth - 500 ml
  • Carrots - 50 grams, sliced
  • Daikon radish - 100 grams, sliced
  • Onion - 1 medium, chopped
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Coconut aminos - 1 tablespoon
  • Star anise - 2 whole
  • Cinnamon stick - 1
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger, sautéing until fragrant and the onion is translucent.
  2. Add the beef cubes to the pot, browning them on all sides. Season with salt and black pepper.
  3. Pour in the beef broth, then add the fish sauce, coconut aminos, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Stir to combine.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Let it simmer for about 1 hour.
  5. After 1 hour, add the sliced carrots and daikon radish to the pot. Continue to simmer for another 30 minutes, or until the beef is tender and the vegetables are cooked.
  6. Remove the star anise and cinnamon stick before serving. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.
