- Beef chuck - 400 grams, cut into cubes
- Beef broth - 500 ml
- Carrots - 50 grams, sliced
- Daikon radish - 100 grams, sliced
- Onion - 1 medium, chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Coconut aminos - 1 tablespoon
- Star anise - 2 whole
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Fresh cilantro - for garnish
- Salt - to taste
Steps
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger, sautéing until fragrant and the onion is translucent.
- Add the beef cubes to the pot, browning them on all sides. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Pour in the beef broth, then add the fish sauce, coconut aminos, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Let it simmer for about 1 hour.
- After 1 hour, add the sliced carrots and daikon radish to the pot. Continue to simmer for another 30 minutes, or until the beef is tender and the vegetables are cooked.
- Remove the star anise and cinnamon stick before serving. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.
