Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 400 grams
  • Shallots - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Beef broth - 100 ml
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Star anise - 1 whole
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Lettuce leaves - 4 large
  • Sliced cucumber - 1/2 cup
  • Sliced tomatoes - 1/2 cup

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped shallots, garlic, ginger, fish sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, star anise, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  4. While the patties are cooking, prepare the beef broth in a small pot and bring it to a simmer. Remove the star anise after a few minutes.
  5. Once the patties are cooked, set them aside to rest for a few minutes.
  6. To assemble the burgers, place each patty on a large lettuce leaf, top with sliced cucumber, sliced tomatoes, and chopped cilantro.
  7. Drizzle a little of the simmered beef broth over the top for added flavor and moisture.
  8. Wrap the lettuce around the filling and enjoy your Bò Kho Burger!
