- Ground beef - 400 grams
- Shallots - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Beef broth - 100 ml
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
- Star anise - 1 whole
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Lettuce leaves - 4 large
- Sliced cucumber - 1/2 cup
- Sliced tomatoes - 1/2 cup
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped shallots, garlic, ginger, fish sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, star anise, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
- While the patties are cooking, prepare the beef broth in a small pot and bring it to a simmer. Remove the star anise after a few minutes.
- Once the patties are cooked, set them aside to rest for a few minutes.
- To assemble the burgers, place each patty on a large lettuce leaf, top with sliced cucumber, sliced tomatoes, and chopped cilantro.
- Drizzle a little of the simmered beef broth over the top for added flavor and moisture.
