Ingredients
- Phyllo dough - 200 grams (about 10 sheets)
- Fresh spinach - 150 grams, chopped
- Feta cheese - 100 grams, crumbled
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Garlic - 1 clove, minced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (optional)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the chopped spinach, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the spinach is wilted. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a bowl, combine the cooled spinach mixture with the crumbled feta cheese.
- Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with olive oil. Place another sheet on top and brush with more oil.
- Cut the layered phyllo into 3 equal strips lengthwise. Place a tablespoon of the spinach and feta filling at one end of each strip.
- Fold the phyllo over the filling to form a triangle, then continue folding in a triangular pattern until you reach the end of the strip. Brush the top with olive oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
- Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo sheets and filling.
- Place the börek on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
