Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 250g
- Warm water - 150ml
- Active dry yeast - 7g
- Sugar - 10g
- Salt - 5g
- Olive oil - 15ml
- Sesame seeds - 50g
- Baking soda - 5g
Steps
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, then shape into a circle and pinch the ends together to form a ring.
- In a small bowl, mix baking soda with 250ml of warm water. Dip each ring into the baking soda solution and then coat in sesame seeds.
- Place the coated rings on the prepared baking sheet and let them rest for another 10 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
