Ingredients
- Phyllo dough - 200 grams
- Unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
- Chopped walnuts - 50 grams
- Milk - 300 ml
- Sugar - 100 grams
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 100 ml
- Pistachios - for garnish
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan or microwave.
- Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in a greased baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat this process with 5 more sheets, layering them one on top of the other.
- Sprinkle half of the chopped walnuts evenly over the layered phyllo.
- Layer 3 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with melted butter.
- Add the remaining walnuts and then layer the last 5 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
- Cut the layered phyllo into diamond shapes using a sharp knife.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the phyllo is baking, prepare the milk sauce: In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and water. Stir over medium heat until the mixture thickens.
- Once the phyllo is baked, pour the milk sauce evenly over the hot dessert.
- Let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb the sauce, then garnish with crushed pistachios before serving.
