  • Milk - 300 ml
  • Sugar - 100 grams
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Pistachios - for garnish

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan or microwave.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in a greased baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat this process with 5 more sheets, layering them one on top of the other.
  4. Sprinkle half of the chopped walnuts evenly over the layered phyllo.
  5. Layer 3 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with melted butter.
  6. Add the remaining walnuts and then layer the last 5 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
  7. Cut the layered phyllo into diamond shapes using a sharp knife.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While the phyllo is baking, prepare the milk sauce: In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and water. Stir over medium heat until the mixture thickens.
  10. Once the phyllo is baked, pour the milk sauce evenly over the hot dessert.
  11. Let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb the sauce, then garnish with crushed pistachios before serving.
