- Basmati rice - 150 grams
- Water - 300 milliliters
- Black cumin seeds (çörek otu) - 1 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Onion (finely chopped) - 1 small
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish) - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch. Soak the rice in water for about 20 minutes, then drain.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent.
- Stir in the black cumin seeds and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the soaked and drained basmati rice to the saucepan, stirring gently to coat the rice with the oil and onion mixture.
- Pour in 300 milliliters of water, and add salt and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit covered for another 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
