Ingredients

  • Fresh unsalted cheese (like mozzarella or ricotta) - 100 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 50 grams
  • Butter - 30 grams, melted
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Pistachios - for garnish, crushed (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the fresh cheese, flour, melted butter, sugar, egg, baking powder, and vanilla extract. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Grease a small baking dish with a bit of butter. Press half of the cheese mixture into the bottom of the dish evenly.
  4. In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, and lemon juice over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Spread the remaining cheese mixture over the first layer in the baking dish.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and immediately pour the syrup over the hot dessert.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with crushed pistachios if desired.
