Ingredients

  • Lamb shoulder - 500 grams
  • Onion - 1 large, chopped
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 medium, diced
  • Tomato - 1 large, diced
  • Potato - 1 medium, diced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Yogurt - 100 grams, for serving
  • Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 500 milliliters
  • Fresh parsley - for garnish

Steps

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  2. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Incorporate diced lamb shoulder, cooking until browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in the diced carrot, tomato, and potato, allowing to cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add turmeric, cumin, black pepper, and salt to the pot, mixing well to coat the meat and vegetables.
  6. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and cover the pot.
  7. Let the mixture simmer for about 1.5 hours, or until the lamb is tender and easily falls apart.
  8. Once cooked, remove from heat and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley and a dollop of yogurt on the side.
