Ingredients

  • Phyllo dough - 100 grams
  • Unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
  • Pistachios, finely chopped - 70 grams
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, honey, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Set aside to cool.
  3. Melt the unsalted butter in a microwave or small saucepan.
  4. Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush it again. Repeat this process until you have 5 layers of phyllo.
  5. Spread half of the chopped pistachios evenly over the phyllo layers.
  6. Cover the pistachios with another 5 layers of buttered phyllo dough, repeating the same layering method as before.
  7. Once layered, sprinkle the remaining pistachios on top and fold the edges of the phyllo over the filling to create a rectangular shape.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut the dessert into squares or diamond shapes.
  9. Place the dessert in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot dessert. Allow it to soak for at least 10 minutes before serving.
