Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg and sugar until pale and fluffy.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the egg mixture, and mix well.
- In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased small baking dish (approximately 15x15 cm) and smooth the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the caramel sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the brown sugar to the melted butter and stir until dissolved, then slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously.
- Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly, then remove from heat.
- Once the cake is done, let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
- Drizzle the warm caramel sauce over the slices and serve immediately.
