Ingredients

  • Semolina - 100 grams
  • Olive oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Water - 250 milliliters
  • Instant coffee - 1 tablespoon
  • Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
  • Chopped walnuts - 30 grams
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - a pinch

Steps

  1. In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil and dissolve the instant coffee in it. Set aside.
  2. In a medium-sized skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the semolina and stir continuously until it becomes golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
  3. Once the semolina is roasted, carefully pour in the coffee water mixture while stirring to avoid lumps.
  4. Add the maple syrup, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Continue to stir until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and fold in the chopped walnuts.
  6. Spoon the helva into serving dishes and let it cool slightly before serving.
