Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 250 grams
  • Chickpeas (canned, drained) - 200 grams
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Parsley (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Tomato paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable broth - 200 ml
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Shape the meat mixture into small, oval-shaped koftes (meatballs) and set aside.
  4. In a baking dish, spread the drained chickpeas evenly across the bottom.
  5. Place the koftes on top of the chickpeas in the baking dish.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, tomato paste, and vegetable broth. Pour this mixture evenly over the koftes and chickpeas.
  7. Drizzle the lemon juice on top.
  8. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the koftes are cooked through and golden brown.
  10. Serve warm, garnished with extra parsley if desired.
