Ingredients

  • Phyllo dough - 6 sheets
  • Unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
  • Dark chocolate (70% cocoa) - 100 grams, chopped
  • Walnuts - 50 grams, finely chopped
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Pistachios - for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, honey, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  3. Melt the butter in a small bowl. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with the melted butter. Repeat this process for 3 sheets, layering them on top of each other.
  4. In a bowl, mix the chopped dark chocolate and walnuts. Spread half of this mixture evenly over the layered phyllo.
  5. Layer another 2 sheets of phyllo dough on top of the chocolate mixture, brushing each with melted butter. Spread the remaining chocolate mixture over the top.
  6. Finish with 1 more sheet of phyllo, brushing it with butter. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Once removed from the oven, immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava. Allow it to absorb the syrup for at least 15 minutes.
  9. Garnish with crushed pistachios, if desired, and serve warm.
