Ingredients
- Phyllo dough - 6 sheets
- Unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
- Dark chocolate (70% cocoa) - 100 grams, chopped
- Walnuts - 50 grams, finely chopped
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Water - 100 ml
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Honey - 1 tablespoon
- Pistachios - for garnish (optional)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, honey, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- Melt the butter in a small bowl. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with the melted butter. Repeat this process for 3 sheets, layering them on top of each other.
- In a bowl, mix the chopped dark chocolate and walnuts. Spread half of this mixture evenly over the layered phyllo.
- Layer another 2 sheets of phyllo dough on top of the chocolate mixture, brushing each with melted butter. Spread the remaining chocolate mixture over the top.
- Finish with 1 more sheet of phyllo, brushing it with butter. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Once removed from the oven, immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava. Allow it to absorb the syrup for at least 15 minutes.
- Garnish with crushed pistachios, if desired, and serve warm.
