Ingredients
- Phyllo dough - 10 sheets
- Unsalted butter - 100 grams, melted
- Pistachios, shelled and finely chopped - 150 grams
- Granulated sugar - 100 grams
- Water - 200 milliliters
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened. Set aside to cool.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped pistachios with ground cinnamon.
- Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush again. Repeat this for 5 sheets to create a layered base.
- Sprinkle a generous layer of the pistachio mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Continue layering by adding another 5 sheets of phyllo dough, buttering each layer as before.
- Cut the layered baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
- Remove from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava, ensuring it seeps into the cuts.
- Let it rest for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the syrup to soak in.
