- Long-grain rice - 150 grams
- Orzo pasta - 50 grams
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Garlic - 1 clove, minced
- Chicken or vegetable broth - 400 ml
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)
Steps
- Rinse the long-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and orzo pasta to the saucepan, stirring frequently until the orzo turns golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- Stir in the rinsed rice, coating it well with the oil, garlic, and onion mixture.
- Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, then add salt and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff the pilav with a fork, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve warm.
