Ingredients
- cooked chickpeas - 240 grams
- onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- fresh parsley - 30 grams, chopped
- cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
- red chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
- salt - 1 teaspoon
- black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- all-purpose flour - 40 grams
- olive oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
- pita bread - 2 pieces
- sliced cucumber - 100 grams
- sliced tomato - 100 grams
- lettuce leaves - 2
Steps
- In a large mixing bowl, mash the cooked chickpeas with a fork or potato masher until they are mostly smooth but still have some texture.
- Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, smoked paprika, red chili flakes, salt, black pepper, and all-purpose flour to the mashed chickpeas. Mix well until combined.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts and shape each part into a patty about 1.5 cm thick.
- Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- While the patties are cooking, warm the pita bread in a separate pan or microwave.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a chickpea patty in each pita, topped with sliced cucumber, tomato, and lettuce.
