Ingredients

  • Brown sugar - 60 grams
  • Walnuts (chopped) - 30 grams
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat and add the fine bulgur, stirring for about 2-3 minutes until lightly toasted.
  2. Add the water, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon to the bulgur, stirring well to combine.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes until the bulgur is tender and has absorbed the liquid.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped walnuts and vanilla extract.
  5. Let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Fluff the helva with a fork, then transfer to serving plates and allow to cool slightly before serving.
