Ingredients
- Yufka (thin pastry sheets) - 4 sheets
- Walnuts, finely chopped - 100 grams
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Butter, melted - 50 grams
- Honey - 30 grams
- Water - 100 ml
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Powdered sugar for dusting - optional
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Lay one sheet of yufka on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process with the second sheet, layering them on top of each other.
- Spread a quarter of the walnut mixture evenly over the yufka sheets.
- Fold the yufka over the filling to create a log shape, then roll it tightly. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Repeat the process with the remaining yufka sheets and filling, making two more logs and placing them on the baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- While the börek is baking, prepare the syrup by combining water, honey, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Once the börek is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the syrup over the hot pastry, allowing it to soak in.
- Let it cool for a few minutes, then slice into pieces and dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
