Ingredients

  • tempeh - 250 grams
  • soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
  • lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • peanut oil - 1 tablespoon
  • fresh cilantro - for garnish
  • lime wedges - for serving

Steps

  1. Cut the tempeh into 1-cm thick slices and steam for 10 minutes to soften.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, lime juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red chili flakes to create the marinade.
  3. Place the steamed tempeh slices in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, making sure all pieces are well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Heat a grill pan or outdoor grill over medium heat and brush with peanut oil.
  5. Grill the marinated tempeh slices for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are nicely charred and heated through.
  6. Remove from the grill and let cool slightly before serving.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges on the side.
