Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Thai basil leaves - 30 grams
  • Red bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
  • Green bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Oyster sauce (vegetarian) - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Lime - 1, juiced
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into cubes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the cubed tofu and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil, garlic, and shallots. Sauté until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
  5. Add the sliced red and green bell peppers to the skillet and stir-fry for another 3-4 minutes until they start to soften.
  6. Return the fried tofu to the skillet and add soy sauce, oyster sauce, chili paste, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
  7. Add the Thai basil leaves and lime juice, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until the basil is wilted.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary before serving.
