Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Thai basil leaves - 30 grams
- Red bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
- Green bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Oyster sauce (vegetarian) - 2 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Chili paste - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Lime - 1, juiced
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into cubes.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the cubed tofu and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil, garlic, and shallots. Sauté until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
- Add the sliced red and green bell peppers to the skillet and stir-fry for another 3-4 minutes until they start to soften.
- Return the fried tofu to the skillet and add soy sauce, oyster sauce, chili paste, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Add the Thai basil leaves and lime juice, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until the basil is wilted.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary before serving.
