Ingredients
- Ground chicken - 300 grams
- Fresh Thai basil leaves - 30 grams (about 1 cup, packed)
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Shallot - 1 small, finely chopped
- Red chili - 1, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 1 teaspoon
- Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
- Egg - 1, lightly beaten
- Panko breadcrumbs - 50 grams
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Burger buns - 2, whole wheat recommended
- Lettuce leaves - 2
- Sliced tomato - 1 medium
- Cucumber slices - for garnish
Steps
- In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, minced garlic, chopped shallot, chopped red chili, soy sauce, fish sauce, lime juice, beaten egg, panko breadcrumbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Chop half of the Thai basil leaves and fold them into the chicken mixture. Form the mixture into 2 equal-sized patties.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until cooked through and golden brown.
- While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns in the same skillet until golden.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the chicken patty, sliced tomato, and cucumber slices. Top with the remaining whole Thai basil leaves and the top half of the bun.
- Serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauce or side.
