Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 100 grams
  • Coconut milk - 150 ml
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Grated coconut (unsweetened) - 50 grams
  • Sesame seeds (optional) - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth. Steam the rice for about 20 minutes until it becomes translucent and tender.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely, then remove from heat.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large mixing bowl and gradually pour in 100 ml of the sweet coconut mixture. Mix well until the rice absorbs the coconut milk.
  5. Allow the rice mixture to cool slightly, then wet your hands and form small balls (about the size of a golf ball) with the rice mixture.
  6. Roll the rice balls in the grated coconut to coat them evenly. Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added texture.
  7. Serve the sweet coconut rice balls warm or at room temperature, drizzled with any remaining coconut milk mixture if desired.
