Ingredients
- Whole white fish (such as snapper or tilapia) - 400 grams
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Fresh coriander (cilantro) - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Fresh lime juice - 60 ml
- Red chili (bird's eye) - 1, finely sliced
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 250 ml
- Lime wedges - for garnish
- Cucumber - 1/2, sliced (for serving)
Steps
- Prepare the fish by cleaning and making 3 diagonal slashes on each side to allow flavors to penetrate.
- In a small bowl, mix together the minced garlic, lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, and sliced chili to create the sauce.
- Place the fish on a heatproof plate that fits inside a steamer. Pour half of the sauce over the fish, ensuring it covers the slashes.
- Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, place the steamer with the fish over the pot, cover, and steam for about 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Once cooked, carefully remove the plate from the steamer. Drizzle the remaining sauce over the fish.
- Garnish with chopped coriander and serve with lime wedges and cucumber slices on the side.
