Ingredients

  • Beef sirloin - 300 grams, thinly sliced
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
  • Red bell pepper - 1, julienned
  • Green bell pepper - 1, julienned
  • Thai bird's eye chili - 2, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fresh basil leaves - 1/4 cup, roughly chopped

Steps

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add minced garlic and sliced shallots, stir-frying for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the sliced beef sirloin to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until browned and cooked to your liking.
  4. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil, then add the red and green bell peppers and bird's eye chili. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the peppers are tender.
  6. Return the beef to the skillet and add soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in fresh basil leaves.
  8. Serve hot with steamed jasmine rice or on its own as a delicious BBQ dish.
