Ingredients

  • Whole wheat pizza dough - 200 grams
  • Ground pork - 150 grams
  • Tomato paste - 3 tablespoons
  • Fresh tomatoes, diced - 1 medium
  • Shallots, finely chopped - 2
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Thai bird chilies, chopped - 2 (adjust to taste)
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Palm sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh basil leaves - 10 leaves
  • Mozzarella cheese, shredded - 100 grams
  • Red bell pepper, sliced - 1/2
  • Cilantro, for garnish - a handful
  • Lime wedges, for serving - 2

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil and sauté the shallots and garlic until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground pork to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, bird chilies, fish sauce, and palm sugar. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Roll out the whole wheat pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  6. Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Spread the pork mixture evenly over the pizza base.
  8. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top, followed by sliced red bell pepper and fresh basil leaves.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and the crust is golden.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges.
