Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 300 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Red onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 150 grams, diced
  • Thai bird chilies - 2, finely chopped
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Coconut sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lettuce leaves (butter or romaine) - 4 large leaves
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges
  • Salt - to taste
  • Pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, minced garlic, chopped red onion, salt, and pepper. Mix until well incorporated.
  2. Form the mixture into two patties, about 1.5 cm thick.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  4. In another pan, combine diced tomatoes, chopped bird chilies, fish sauce, coconut sugar, and cilantro over medium heat. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the tomatoes break down and the mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Once the patties are cooked, assemble the burgers by placing each patty on a lettuce leaf and topping it generously with the Nam Prik Ong sauce.
  6. Serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the burgers.
