Ingredients

  • Betel leaves - 6 large leaves
  • Shredded coconut (unsweetened) - 30 grams
  • Roasted peanuts - 30 grams
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges
  • Shallots - 2, finely chopped
  • Dried shrimp - 15 grams, chopped
  • Palm sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Chili flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh ginger - 10 grams, finely chopped

Steps

  1. Prepare the sauce by mixing palm sugar, fish sauce, and chili flakes in a small bowl until the sugar dissolves.
  2. In a dry pan over medium heat, toast the shredded coconut until golden brown, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  3. Chop the roasted peanuts and dried shrimp, then set aside.
  4. Lay out the betel leaves on a plate, and on each leaf, add a small amount of toasted coconut, chopped peanuts, dried shrimp, finely chopped shallots, and ginger.
  5. Squeeze a wedge of lime over the filling, then drizzle a small amount of the sauce on top.
  6. Fold the betel leaves over the filling like a small package, and enjoy the burst of flavors in each bite.
