Ingredients

  • Jasmine rice - 150 grams (uncooked)
  • Minced pork - 200 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 2 small, finely chopped
  • Green bell pepper - 1, diced
  • Carrot - 1 small, diced
  • Egg - 1, lightly beaten
  • Fresh Thai basil leaves - 30 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then cook it according to package instructions. Once cooked, set aside.
  2. In a large pan or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and shallots, sautéing until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add the minced pork to the pan, cooking until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Break it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
  4. Stir in the diced green bell pepper and carrot, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  5. Push the pork and vegetables to one side of the pan and pour the beaten egg into the empty side. Scramble the egg until fully cooked, then mix it with the pork and vegetables.
  6. Add the cooked rice to the pan, followed by the soy sauce, oyster sauce, chili flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together until well combined and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove the pan from heat and gently fold in the fresh Thai basil leaves until wilted. Serve hot.
