Ingredients

  • Sticky rice - 200 grams
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Pandan leaves - 3 pieces (tied in a knot)
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons (toasted)
  • Fresh mango - 1 medium (sliced for serving)

Steps

  1. Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel. Steam the rice for about 30 minutes until tender.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, salt, and pandan leaves. Heat gently over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, then remove from heat and discard the pandan leaves.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and mix in half of the coconut sauce, allowing it to absorb the flavors for about 5 minutes.
  5. To serve, place a portion of the sticky rice on a plate, drizzle with the remaining coconut sauce, and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Add slices of fresh mango on the side.
