Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 150 grams
  • Mung beans - 50 grams
  • Coconut milk - 100 ml
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Pandan leaves - 2 (optional, for aroma)
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice and soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Soak the mung beans in water for 2 hours, then drain.
  3. In a pot, combine the soaked mung beans with 200 ml of water and cook until soft, about 20 minutes. Drain any excess water.
  4. In a separate pot, steam the soaked glutinous rice for about 30 minutes until cooked and sticky.
  5. In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves, then add the cooked mung beans and mix well.
  6. Remove the cooked glutinous rice from the steamer and let it cool slightly. Then, layer half of the rice in a shallow dish.
  7. Spread the mung bean mixture over the rice, then top with the remaining glutinous rice, pressing down gently.
  8. If using, tie the pandan leaves into knots and place them on top for aroma during steaming.
  9. Steam the entire dish for an additional 15 minutes to meld the flavors.
  10. Let it cool, cut into squares, and garnish with sesame seeds before serving.
