Ingredients
- Glutinous rice - 150 grams
- Mung beans - 50 grams
- Coconut milk - 100 ml
- Sugar - 30 grams
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Pandan leaves - 2 (optional, for aroma)
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
Steps
- Rinse the glutinous rice and soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Soak the mung beans in water for 2 hours, then drain.
- In a pot, combine the soaked mung beans with 200 ml of water and cook until soft, about 20 minutes. Drain any excess water.
- In a separate pot, steam the soaked glutinous rice for about 30 minutes until cooked and sticky.
- In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves, then add the cooked mung beans and mix well.
- Remove the cooked glutinous rice from the steamer and let it cool slightly. Then, layer half of the rice in a shallow dish.
- Spread the mung bean mixture over the rice, then top with the remaining glutinous rice, pressing down gently.
- If using, tie the pandan leaves into knots and place them on top for aroma during steaming.
- Steam the entire dish for an additional 15 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Let it cool, cut into squares, and garnish with sesame seeds before serving.
