Ingredients

  • Sticky rice - 150 grams
  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Chili flakes - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
  • Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Peanuts - 30 grams, crushed
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges

Steps

  1. Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. After soaking, drain the rice and steam it in a bamboo or metal steamer for about 20-25 minutes, or until tender and sticky.
  3. While the rice is steaming, prepare the tofu by pressing it to remove excess moisture, then cut it into thick slices.
  4. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, maple syrup, minced garlic, black pepper, and chili flakes to create the marinade. Add the tofu slices and let them marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated tofu slices and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and divide it onto two plates.
  7. Place the grilled tofu on top of the sticky rice, and garnish with sliced cucumbers, chopped cilantro, and crushed peanuts.
  8. Serve with lime wedges on the side for an extra burst of flavor.
