- Sticky rice - 200 grams
- Coconut milk - 400 ml
- Water - 500 ml
- Fresh ginger - 20 grams, sliced
- Pandan leaves - 2 pieces, tied in a knot
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Palm sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, toasted
- Chopped fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- Soak the sticky rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the soaked sticky rice and steam it in a bamboo steamer or a rice cooker for about 20-25 minutes until cooked through.
- In a saucepan, combine coconut milk, water, sliced ginger, pandan leaves, salt, and palm sugar. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Once the mixture is simmering, remove it from heat and let it steep for about 10 minutes to infuse the flavors.
- Remove the ginger slices and pandan leaves from the coconut milk mixture.
- Serve the steamed sticky rice in bowls and ladle the warm coconut milk soup over it.
- Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and chopped cilantro before serving.
