Ingredients

  • Sticky rice - 200 grams
  • Coconut milk - 400 ml
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Pandan leaves - 2 (optional, for aroma)
  • Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons (for garnish)
  • Fresh mango - 1 (sliced, for serving)

Steps

  1. Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel. If using pandan leaves, tie them in a knot and add them to the rice for extra aroma.
  3. Steam the rice for about 30 minutes, or until it becomes translucent and sticky. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. In a saucepan, combine coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat gently over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Do not boil.
  5. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a serving bowl and pour half of the coconut sauce over the top. Mix gently to combine.
  6. Let the rice sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the coconut flavor.
  7. To serve, plate the rice and drizzle more coconut sauce on top. Garnish with sesame seeds and serve with sliced fresh mango on the side.
