Ingredients

  • Sticky rice - 100 grams
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Pandan leaves - 2 pieces (tied into a knot)
  • Banana leaves - 4 pieces (for wrapping)

Steps

  1. Soak the sticky rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight, then drain.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt, and heat over low heat until the sugar dissolves. Do not boil.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the soaked sticky rice with the sweetened coconut milk and mix well to ensure the rice is evenly coated.
  4. Cut the banana leaves into squares (about 15x15 cm) and lightly steam them to make them pliable.
  5. Place a spoonful of the sticky rice mixture in the center of each banana leaf square, adding a piece of pandan leaf on top.
  6. Fold the banana leaf over the filling to create a sealed packet and secure with a piece of kitchen twine if necessary.
  7. Place the wrapped packets in a steamer and steam for about 30-40 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and tender.
  8. Remove from the steamer, let cool slightly, and serve warm or at room temperature.
