Ingredients
- Sticky rice - 150 grams
- Coconut milk - 200 ml
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Tapioca starch - 1 tablespoon
- Water - 100 ml
- Sesame seeds (optional) - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the soaked sticky rice and steam it for about 20-25 minutes in a bamboo or metal steamer until it's tender and translucent.
- In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat gently over low heat until the sugar dissolves, then remove from heat.
- In a small bowl, mix the tapioca starch with water to form a slurry. Add this slurry to the warm coconut milk and stir well until it thickens slightly.
- Once the sticky rice is cooked, remove it from the steamer and transfer it to a serving dish, pressing it down to form an even layer.
- Pour half of the thickened coconut milk mixture over the sticky rice and let it soak for about 10 minutes.
- Drizzle the remaining coconut milk mixture on top before serving. Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds for garnish.
