Ingredients

  • Sticky rice - 150 grams
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Tapioca starch - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Sesame seeds (optional) - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked sticky rice and steam it for about 20-25 minutes in a bamboo or metal steamer until it's tender and translucent.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat gently over low heat until the sugar dissolves, then remove from heat.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the tapioca starch with water to form a slurry. Add this slurry to the warm coconut milk and stir well until it thickens slightly.
  5. Once the sticky rice is cooked, remove it from the steamer and transfer it to a serving dish, pressing it down to form an even layer.
  6. Pour half of the thickened coconut milk mixture over the sticky rice and let it soak for about 10 minutes.
  7. Drizzle the remaining coconut milk mixture on top before serving. Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds for garnish.
