Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Tamarind paste - 3 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish
  • Lime wedges - for serving

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch thick slices.
  2. In a bowl, mix together tamarind paste, soy sauce, maple syrup, lime juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  3. Place the tofu slices in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Brush with sesame oil to prevent sticking.
  5. Remove the tofu from the marinade and place it on the grill. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until grill marks appear and the tofu is heated through.
  6. Serve the grilled tofu garnished with fresh cilantro and lime wedges on the side.
