Ingredients

  • Pork shoulder - 250 grams
  • Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 2, finely chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Panko breadcrumbs - 50 grams
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cucumber - 1/2, sliced thinly
  • Lettuce leaves - 4
  • Thai sweet chili sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Peanut oil - for frying

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, fish sauce, minced garlic, chopped shallots, cilantro, lime juice, panko breadcrumbs, beaten egg, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into two patties, about 1.5 cm thick.
  3. Heat peanut oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. While the patties are cooking, prepare the burger buns by lightly toasting them in another pan or on a grill.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by the crispy pork patty, sliced cucumber, and a drizzle of Thai sweet chili sauce. Top with the other half of the bun.
  6. Serve immediately with additional chili sauce on the side, if desired.
