Ingredients

  • White fish fillets (like cod or tilapia) - 250 grams
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice flour - 1/2 cup
  • Cornstarch - 1/4 cup
  • Cold sparkling water - 1/2 cup
  • Breadcrumbs - 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil - for frying
  • Burger buns - 2 pieces
  • Cabbage, finely shredded - 1/2 cup
  • Cucumber, sliced - 1/2 cup
  • Thai sweet chili sauce - 4 tablespoons
  • Fresh cilantro leaves - a handful

Steps

  1. In a bowl, season the fish fillets with salt, black pepper, and lime juice. Let them marinate for about 10 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix the rice flour and cornstarch. Gradually add the cold sparkling water to create a smooth batter.
  3. Dip each marinated fish fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated fish fillets and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove the fish from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  6. Toast the burger buns lightly on a skillet or grill.
  7. Assemble the burger: Spread a tablespoon of Thai sweet chili sauce on each bun, add the fried fish fillet, top with shredded cabbage, cucumber slices, and cilantro leaves.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Crispy Fish Burger!
