Ingredients
- Glutinous rice - 150 grams
- Coconut milk - 200 ml
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Tapioca starch - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for topping)
- Banana leaves (or parchment paper) - for lining
Steps
- Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the soaked rice and steam it in a steamer lined with banana leaves or parchment paper for about 30 minutes, until tender.
- While the rice is steaming, combine coconut milk, sugar, salt, and tapioca starch in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the mixture thickens slightly and is well combined, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a mixing bowl and gradually add the coconut mixture, stirring well to combine until the rice is evenly coated.
- Pour the sticky rice mixture into a greased mold or a shallow dish lined with banana leaves, pressing it down gently to form an even layer.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds on top, then let it cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.
- Once set, cut into squares or rectangles and serve chilled or at room temperature.
