Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 100 grams
  • Coconut milk - 150 milliliters
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Grated coconut - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 150 milliliters

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and steam it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and sticky.
  3. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved, and then remove from heat.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a mixing bowl and gradually add half of the coconut milk mixture, stirring to combine. Allow it to cool slightly.
  5. Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking, then take small portions of the rice mixture and roll them into balls, about 2.5 cm in diameter.
  6. Once all the rice balls are formed, place them on a plate and drizzle the remaining coconut milk mixture over the top.
  7. Sprinkle sesame seeds and grated coconut on top for garnish, and let them sit for a few minutes to absorb the flavors before serving.
