Ingredients

  • Sticky rice - 150 grams
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds (optional) - 1 tablespoon
  • Mango (for serving, optional) - 1 ripe mango

Steps

  1. Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer basket lined with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel.
  3. Steam the rice over boiling water for about 20-25 minutes, or until it becomes translucent and tender.
  4. While the rice is steaming, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves, but do not boil.
  5. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and pour about 150 ml of the coconut milk mixture over it. Stir gently to combine and let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  6. To serve, divide the sticky rice into two bowls, drizzle with the remaining coconut milk mixture, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Serve with sliced mango on the side if using.
