Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 100 grams
  • Coconut milk - 150 ml
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Grated coconut (unsweetened) - 50 grams
  • Banana leaves or parchment paper - for wrapping

Steps

  1. Soak the glutinous rice in water for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and steam it in a steamer basket lined with banana leaves or parchment paper for about 20 minutes, until cooked and slightly sticky.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves, but do not boil.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a mixing bowl and pour half of the sweetened coconut milk over the rice. Mix well and let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavor.
  5. Prepare small dumplings by taking a spoonful of the rice mixture and shaping it into a ball. Repeat until all the rice is used.
  6. Roll each dumpling in the grated coconut until fully coated.
  7. Serve the dumplings warm or at room temperature, drizzled with the remaining sweetened coconut milk.
