Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Fresh Thai basil leaves - 1 cup
  • Red bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Red chili - 1, sliced (adjust to taste)
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the tofu cubes to the skillet and cook until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add minced garlic and sliced red chili, and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Add the sliced red bell pepper and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
  7. Return the tofu to the skillet, and add soy sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  8. Add the fresh Thai basil leaves and stir-fry for an additional minute until the basil is wilted.
  9. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt if needed, then serve hot.
