Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Fresh Thai basil leaves - 1 cup
- Red bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Red chili - 1, sliced (adjust to taste)
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - to taste
Steps
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
- In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the tofu cubes to the skillet and cook until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add minced garlic and sliced red chili, and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the sliced red bell pepper and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
- Return the tofu to the skillet, and add soy sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
- Add the fresh Thai basil leaves and stir-fry for an additional minute until the basil is wilted.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt if needed, then serve hot.
