Steps
- Rinse the black sesame seeds under cold water and drain.
- In a dry skillet, toast the black sesame seeds over medium heat for about 5 minutes until fragrant, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
- Transfer the toasted sesame seeds to a blender and add 200 ml of water. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Strain the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a saucepan, discarding any solids.
- Add the coconut milk, brown sugar, salt, and vanilla extract to the saucepan with the strained sesame mixture.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a gentle simmer. Allow it to cook for an additional 5-10 minutes to thicken.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving. Optionally, serve warm or chilled.
