Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Fresh Thai basil leaves - 30 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges for serving

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Press the tofu for about 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, minced garlic, and red chili flakes.
  4. Add the tofu cubes to the bowl and gently toss to coat them in the marinade. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle cornstarch over the marinated tofu and toss gently until evenly coated.
  6. Spread the tofu cubes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and drizzle with vegetable oil.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  8. Remove the tofu from the oven and toss with fresh Thai basil and chopped green onions.
  9. Serve hot with lime wedges on the side.
